Computer Science Immersion

Code to the Future

Our computer science program comes from Code to the Future. Their goal is to provide students with the skills they need to thrive in a future filled with technology.

What does this mean?

In addition to our standards based curriculum, we will be integrating coding into our program. All students K-8 will be participating. This program will be divided into trimesters. The first trimester will be Scratch (entry-level coding). The second trimester will be robotics and Legos, and the third trimester will be Minecraft where students learn to program using Java. Our 7th and 8th graders will be focusing on HTML5 and Phython using a program called Codesters. Every trimester will end in an “Epic Build” where students showcase their work with their families. During the year we will have a coach on campus working with our staff and assisting with lessons.

Technology

To help our students succeed, we have purchased several new pieces of technology. This year, depending on grade level, students will have access to either a Lenovo 100e Chromebook or 100e Windows laptop. In addition students will learn robotics with either a Wedo 2.0 or a EV3 Mindstorm.
