What is Digital Citizenship?
Digital Citizenship is responsible behavior in regards to technology use. Digital Citizenship encompasses positive and negative aspects of technology. It also encourages students to be upstanders, rather than bystanders, when they see someone being harmed.
Our Digital Citizenship Vision
Dehesa School is prepared to help its students as they take their first steps into the digital world. We realize that we cannot protect them from everything the internet has to offer, but we are looking to help prepare them for it. By providing them with the resources and knowledge they need in order to understand the dangers, and make smart decisions about their digital footprint.
How we teach it
We teach several lessons to multiple grade levels throughout the year that cater to a wide variety of topics. Most of these lessons are taken directly from commonsensemedia.org. This goes hand in hand with the 7 habits we teach our students to help reinforce how they behave not only at school but online as well.
commonsensemedia.org - A great resource for parents and educators that provides information on how to teach kids about staying safe online, proper use of social media, and how their online profile can affect them in the real world. It also has information on age appropriate books, movies, games, apps, and websites.
Below you will find live resources that come directly from Common Sense Media. These resources are continuously updated and can provide a wealth of information.
